We started eating at this lovely and stylish cafe well before it became a location for the movie "Sideways". The cafe is located just a few miles north of the Buelton exits on Highway 101. It makes for a great stopping place for your central coast wine country tour.
You can eat outside on the covered porch, or inside at a linen-covered table, or further inside at the modern cement and stainless steel expansive bar. Here you can watch CNN while you taste dozens of Santa Barbara County's best vintages – ones that can be very difficult to find outside of this area.
Watch your timing on the menus, because it dictates what will be served with the wine. Lunch is from 11:30 to 3:00, and this is good time to stop. The dinner menu starts at 5:00, and features California-Mediterranean cuisine, such as paella, chicken marsala, several pasta dishes, lamb shank and burgers.
Here you can find simply outstanding dishes. Watch the daily specials for local fish preparations, and for vegetarian dishes. Janice especially loved the mushroom risotto.
Inside the cafe is an exquisite and eclectic, fairly priced wine store that features all Santa Barbara County wines, including special vintages. After you pair the wine with the food, make sure you take a bottle home to remember your special meal.
